Beginner Beauty Tips
Welcome to the first post of 2020! If you didn’t see on my Twitter, Blog posts are now going to be published on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s. New videos are going to be posted on Saturdays as well! To start off the year I thought a good post to start with would be Beauty Tips for Beginners! Keep reading to find out the tips I use every day in my makeup routine! As I’m in the process of moving to a new hosting site, my plan ran out and unfortunately, it means I’ve run out of storage so I can’t add any more photos until I change over to my new host so all photos in the next blog posts till the end of Feb are from my old photos.
Today’s post is all about tips I would have loved to know when I was starting in makeup! I’m bringing my best tips to you!
Eye primer is key
In the words of Nikkie Tutorials, to not prime is a crime. Eye primer is one of the things that keeps my eyeshadow bright and in place. Obviously, we all have oils on our face and if you don’t prime, those oils may come to the surface and ruin your eyeshadow. I’ve found that using an eye primer also gives you a blank canvas to do whatever you want on your eye.
I recommend choosing either a white or the skin tone you are. I use the Revolution Cut Crease Canvas but the P Louise base is extraordinary for an eye primer, it can also double up to cut your crease with!
There’s nothing wrong with experimenting!
I was there once when I didn’t know which colours would go together but it’s all about experimenting! I spend countless hours creating looks that don’t necessarily make it on my Instagram because playing with makeup is fun. I once created a blue and pink look and although it made it onto my Instagram, I wasn’t sure it looked right. With whatever you do, experiment with something new. Do a halo eye instead of a cut crease. As they say, practice makes perfect and with makeup, that is always true.
Get Shade Matched
Whether that is professionally getting it done or someone in a shop is helping you, get shade matched ASAP. I made the mistake of not doing it and I was like a ghost for a few years because I thought I was the palest shade there can be. Once you get shade matched, you can go from there and use different variations of your shade whether your skin is warm, cool or neutral.
Different Eye Brushes Make a Difference

Having different eye brushes is such a good thing. You may not want 50 brushes but having a set of different ones help. A mix of fluffy brushes in different sizes will help blend your looks together and having a few flat brushes as well will help when applying shimmer, glitter and for when you cut your crease. I’ve found having a lot of eye brushes means one set could be drying and I can use the others.
Use a Brown Shade for Nose Contour
It’s simple. If you don’t have a contour palette or colour, eyeshadow is a great contour. It’s still a powder and if I haven’t got my contour palette with me, I normally just use a brown eyeshadow and it does the job! You can also use contour shades for eyeshadows! Works both ways!
Lipstick as Blush?
I’ve learnt this recently, use lipstick as a blush! you can blend it in with a sponge, brush or your fingers and it gives you this pink glow! Depending on how prominent you want your blush to be, you have control over how much you put on.
Blend Blend Blend
No matter what you do with your eyeshadow, blending is key! Blending helps combine all the colours and especially if you’re doing a colourful look, it can make or break it. Make sure to use a fluffy blending brush to get that blend right. Start off small and then move to a bigger brush to help complete the look!
There are many other tips but these are the ones I find helped me a lot on my makeup journey and I’m still learning too!
Make sure to follow me on all my social media to keep up with my journey and my posts!
