How Brand Accounts Have Taken Over TikTok
In a world where pugs tell us if we’re going to have a productive day or not and we have a daily quiz straight to our phones, TikTok is one of the biggest platforms on Social Media. However, brand accounts on the app have skyrocketed. Duolingo’s mascot threatening people to do their Spanish lesson and Ryanair’s plane thirst traps, the brand accounts have taken over the platform.
Here are my favourite brand TikTok accounts and how they’ve managed to amass such a following.
Duolingo – Spanish or Vanish
Duolingo may look cute but on TikTok, that owl is ruthless. The social media manager behind the viral videos is Zaria Parvez. Since first posting on their account back in February, the account has now amassed a whopping 29.9M likes and 1.9M followers.
The content is a mix of trends, connecting with other brand accounts and shading Google Translate but the one thing that has gotten everyone’s attention are the comments. With comments like “Spanish or vanish”, Duolingo has been invited to every dinner table on TikTok.
This kind of reactive social and engagement with an audience makes Duolingo one of the best reactive and socially aware brand accounts I have come across. It is one to look out for in 2022.
Engaging with your audience is one of the best ways to show there is someone behind a social media account and the accounts in this post have done just that.
Ryanair – The Plane with a Face
Ryanair was one of the first brand accounts to start this uptake. A week ago we found out who was behind the plane with a face and that was Lily Rafferty. She took to TikTok to take on popular trends and has gained over 36.9M likes and 1.3M followers.
Branding themselves as the “best plane on the app”, Lily has managed to take us on a wild ride over the last 6 months with plane thirst traps to cabin crew taking part in the “couch guy” trend. Her dedication to keeping up with trends, talking to her audience and just overall living and breathing the account has shown dedication and keeping up with what’s going on is crucial.
Like Duolingo, Ryanair has made sure to take a trend and make it their own and this is why the platform loves them.
Lionsgate – The account that called me a clown
If anyone is going to come for me for my love of Twilight, I didn’t expect it to be the ACTUAL production company. Summit Entertainment was acquired by Lionsgate in 2012 (just so no one is confused).
This has to be my favourite TikTok account at the moment. With the sheer volume of products that Lionsgate has under its belt, the creativity with this account is endless. With 65.5M likes and 3.5M followers, I’m not the only one that got amused when being called a clown for that scene in Breaking Dawn: Part 2. We all know the one, I cried in the cinema okay?
From The Hunger Games and Twilight to LaLaLand and Cabin In The Woods, this account is changing the game and giving their audience new movies to get their brand out there. No wonder they’re popular, they’re using popular sounds against the movies they’ve produced.
TikTok has grown so quickly over the last few years and it’s no wonder brand accounts are now taking to the platform. This is the kind of reactive social media that gets your audience to your website/product. I’ve definitely taken some lessons from these brands and I can’t wait to see their evolution in the future.
